Preparations for the Jewish Fall Holidays begin a full month in advance. On the Jewish calendar is a forty-day season called Teshuvah (return or repentance.) This season begins on Elul 1 and ends on the Day of Atonement. The ten days between Rosh Hashanah and the Yom Kippur are called the Days of Awe (aseret y’mei teshuvah):
